Desu Sorro has been involved in the development of the I-Hotel Manilatown Center since 1994. He joined the Manilatown Heritage Foundation in 1999 as Board Secretary, and currently serves as Treasurer, with a strong institutional knowledge of the Foundation.
He first came to Manilatown in the early 70s when his father, Bill Sorro was a tenant-activist at the I-Hotel. In his early teens he began working with his father and the International Hotel tenants on weekends and summers doing maintenance, light-construction and cooking for Sunday brunches.
A second generation San Franciscan, Desu has been attending social justice and anti-war demonstrations since he was a toddler in the 1960s. He now works for the San Francisco Public Library developing its website and managing online resources.
